Indianapolis Power & Light Company COVID-19 Media Update

Indianapolis Power & Light Company COVID-19 Media Update

At Indianapolis Power & Light Company, we put the health and safety of our employees and customers first. We are closely monitoring the spread of the coronavirus, and we are following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Indiana State Department of Health and government leaders to minimize community spread.

Today we’re announcing two IPL employees experiencing COVID-19 symptoms have tested positive. These are IPL’s first confirmed COVID-19 cases. The employees have no history of exposure through travel, which indicates community spread.

IPL worked with the employees to identify people with whom they had direct contact throughout the month of March. IPL contacted identified individuals via phone and instructed them to self-quarantine for 14 days from the last known contact. IPL also requested those individuals remain aware of COVID-19 symptoms and immediately seek care if necessary.

Earlier today, we notified all individuals who normally report to the building. At our request, an environmental contactor thoroughly cleaned and sanitized all exposed work areas, though most IPL people are now working from home.

IPL closed on March 14 its customer service walk-in center at 21st and Illinois streets to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. In addition, the company enacted its business continuity plan that allows customer service agents and other personnel to work from home. Essential employees, like troublemen and lines crews, continue working using personal protective equipment and exercise social distancing with each other and IPL customers.

The services we provide are essential for the communities and customers we serve. IPL is committed to continuing to provide these essential services while balancing the ability to keep our people and our customers safe. We are thankful for our employees’ continued focus on safety so we can meet our commitments during this unprecedented time.Customers with questions should contact IPL at 317-261-8222 or visit IPLpower.com/update.
