Indianapolis Power & Light Earns EEI Emergency Assistance Award for Efforts to Restore Service in Ohio After Tornados

Indianapolis Power & Light Earns EEI Emergency Assistance Award for Efforts to Restore Service in Ohio After Tornados

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL), a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), was presented today with the Edison Electric Institute’s (EEI’s) “Emergency Assistance Award” for its response efforts after severe tornados hit Dayton, Ohio, in May 2019.

Last Memorial Day, a series of 15 tornadoes struck the Dayton area causing wide-spread destruction. In response, IPL sent 26 lineworkers and support personnel more than 120 miles to help restore service to customers over the course of 10 days.

“We are honored to be recognized for EEI’s Emergency Assistance Award,” said Lisa Krueger, AES US SBU President. “We are proud to serve our customers in Indianapolis and answer the call to help the critical restoration efforts for our neighboring electric companies in times of need.”

The Emergency Assistance Award is given annually to select EEI member companies to recognize their outstanding efforts to assist other electric companies with power restoration after service has been disrupted by severe weather conditions or other major incidents. The winners are chosen by a panel of judges following an international nomination process. IPL received the award during EEI’s Winter Board and Chief Executives Meeting in Tucson, Arizona.

“I applaud IPL for responding to the request for mutual assistance and for helping to restore service safely and quickly to those impacted by this severe storm,” said EEI President Tom Kuhn. “Mutual assistance is a hallmark of the electric power industry, and it is critical to helping restore power to customers following significant events.”
