IPL urges gamers to stay away from utility equipment while playing Pokemon Go

IPL urges gamers to stay away from utility equipment while playing Pokemon Go

INDIANAPOLIS—Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL), a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), is warning players of the popular Pokemon GO game to stay away from substations, power lines and other electrical equipment.

Because the application uses actual buildings and landmarks during the game, some players may mistakenly believe they can catch electric types of Pokemon near substations or transformers. Instead, they may endanger their personal safety. Electric equipment is very dangerous. Trespassing on property containing substations or other equipment is dangerous and illegal.

IPL locations have signs that warn everyone to stay away from the property and equipment. IPL also actively works with law enforcement to prevent incidents.
