AES Indiana partners with the 2022 College Football Playoff Indianapolis Host Committee to power the championship game with renewable energy

AES Indiana partners with the 2022 College Football Playoff Indianapolis Host Committee to power the championship game with renewable energy
    2022 Indianapolis Indiana Football Playoffs

AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), announced today it will partner with the 2022 College Football Playoff Indianapolis Host Committee to ensure the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday is powered by renewable energy.

As part of the company’s commitment to accelerating the future of energy, AES Indiana has purchased renewable energy credits (RECs) and will apply them toward energy use at Downtown Indianapolis hotels being utilized for participating teams, pre-game events taking place on Monument Circle and Georgia Street and Lucas Oil Stadium and the Indiana Convention Center for the national championship game.

“AES Indiana is proud to provide green and sustainable energy solutions to power the national playoff game right here in Indianapolis,” said Kristina Lund, President and CEO of AES Indiana. “Indianapolis is home to world class sports and entertainment, and we are pleased to partner with our customers and communities to advance the sustainability of these landmark events.”

In addition, as part of the sustainability legacy from the game, the Indianapolis Host Committee is supporting Keep Indianapolis Beautiful for the creation of a greenspace in partnership with the Community Alliance for the Far Eastside. This effort, part of the AES Indiana Project Greenspace program, transforms vacant and abandoned lots into beautiful, thriving pocket parks for the surrounding community.

“On behalf of the Host Committee, we were proud to invest $100,000 in funding to support these impactful Playoff Green initiatives as well as partner with AES Indiana,” said Susan Baughman, President of the 2022 CFP Indy Host Committee. “It’s important to us that we ensure this event is as sustainable as possible and we’re grateful for our many partnerships with community-minded organizations that enable us to do just that.”

AES Indiana provides safe, reliable, and affordable energy to more than 500,000 customers in Central Indiana. The company is accelerating the transition to a greener energy future and has diversified the portfolio to include conventional fuel sources and renewables and most recently prioritized major investments to modernize the energy grid. Investments AES Indiana is making today, will allow the company to diversify our electric generation portfolio, while still reliably serving our customers into the future.
