IPL encourages customers to put safety first during extreme bitter temperatures

Be weather aware and prepared with an emergency plan IPL encourages customers to put safety first during extreme bitter temperatures

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.— Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL), a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), encourages customers to be safe as extremely cold temperatures affect Central Indiana this week. IPL is prepared to meet  the increase in demand for electricity this week.  While IPL does not anticipate widespread outages, we are staffed appropriately and crews will respond as quickly and safely as possible.

There are several safety tips IPL offers customers to help bear the burden of bitter cold days ahead:

    • Avoid using appliances such as stoves for heating your home.
    • Use caution when using an alternate heat source, such as a fireplace, wood stove, portable/kerosene heater or electric heaters. Provide for proper ventilation and follow all manufacturer’s safety guidelines.
    • Make sure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly.
    • Have an emergency plan in place should you lose power for an extended period of timeKnow where you can go to stay warm – such as a family member’s house, friend’s house, or a warming shelter in your community – until your power outage has been restored. Remember to prepare an emergency kit as well. For a complete list of suggestions, visit IPLpower.com/emergencykit.

There’s power in good planning. Bookmark IPL’s Outage Information Center, a mobile-friendly page that offers easy outage reporting, and even more safety and preparedness tips so you can be safe and prepared whatever the weather.
