Customers ranked utility as having exceptional dedication to environment IPL Named 2016 Utility Environmental Champion by Cogent ReportsTM

INDIANAPOLIS—Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL), a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), has been named a 2016 Utility Environmental Champion by Market Strategies International’s Cogent Reports’ study, Utility Trusted Brand & Customer EngagementTM: Residential. Utility Environmental Champions were chosen based on survey responses from residential customers of 130 U.S. electric and natural gas companies.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for our commitment to the environment,” said Rafael Sanchez, IPL President & CEO. “We are a forward-thinking utility focused on investments in innovative technologies like natural gas and battery storage, which will enable us to meet the future needs of our customers with a balanced, cleaner and more efficient energy mix.”

The study placed IPL among 31 other electric and gas utilities achieving satisfaction among consumers for environmental efforts. IPL’s ranking reflects the extent to which customers believe IPL supports environmental causes, commitment to environmentally-friendly energy resources, encouragement of green initiatives and offering tools to help customers manage their energy usage.

As IPL works to meet the future needs of our customers, we remain committed to delivering safe, sustainable, affordable and reliable power to our approximately 480,000 customers. By spring 2017, IPL’s generating capacity will have more of a focus on natural gas as an energy source, while still utilizing coal, wind and solar as reliable generation resources1. Indianapolis was recently recognized by the Environment America Research and Policy Center as #2 in the U.S. for the amount of installed solar PV capacity per person. Earlier this year, IPL was also recognized by Edison Electric Institute for its innovative execution of solar generation and battery storage projects.

IPL has offered cost-effective Demand Side Management and Energy Efficiency programs for its customers on an uninterrupted basis since 1993. Energy efficiency remains an important element of IPL’s overall resource plan. Currently, IPL offers 12 energy efficiency PowerToolsSM programs, which give customers the power to understand, manage and reduce their energy usage.

1Editor’s Note: IPL buys wind and solar energy as part of its generation mix; however, IPL sells the renewable energy to others in the form of renewable energy credits (REC) for the benefit of our customers.
