Put safety first and have underground utilities marked before any digging project.

Put safety first

When you plan to do outdoor work such as landscaping, installing a fence or pool, or excavating for construction, always call before you dig.

How it works

  • This free service is coordinated by Indiana 811, a collaboration of Indiana utility providers and organizations working together to promote public safety and prevent damage to underground infrastructure.
  • Call 8-1-1 or 800-382-5544 or make an online request at Indiana 811 between two and 10 business days before digging will begin.
  • Be prepared to provide details including contact information, where you will be digging and what type of work you will be doing. It only takes a few minutes.
  • Indiana 811 will coordinate with local utility companies to mark underground facilities in the area.

Indiana law requires that anyone digging contact Indiana 811 at least 48 hours (excluding weekends and legal holidays) prior to beginning their work. Failure to contact Indiana 811 could result in fines or penalties.
