Project benefits
Smart Grid will focus on the improvement of six key areas.

Infrastructure
The Smart Grid plan involves replacing outdated infrastructure, some of which is more than 50 years old, with new, modern assets, which will allow AES Indiana to move to a more enabled and modern electric system for customers.

Reliability
By updating aging infrastructure, the Smart Grid plan can decrease the risk of outages and allow AES Indiana to restore service quicker and more efficiently.

Safety
Advanced technology and replacement of older equipment provides safety features that protect our customers and employees.

Customer experience
With smarter technology, AES Indiana can be instantly notified of any outages or service issues, which allows AES Indiana to begin working on a resolution right away while keeping you informed.

Operation efficiency
New technology will allow AES Indiana to pinpoint location and cause of issues in our infrastructure. This provides us with a better assessment to know what and who it takes to resolve issues.

Modernization
Moving to a modern grid will enable integration of new technologies, like customer-sited renewables, and will create a grid that can heal itself.
