AES Indiana Details Expanded Actions to Support Customers
March 24, 2026
INDIANAPOLIS – AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), participated in Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission’s (IURC) affordability inquiry and shared additional details on the immediate steps it is taking to help customers manage higher bills and access assistance.
“Affordability isn’t achieved through a single decision. It’s the result of careful planning, disciplined investments, and a commitment to supporting customers,” said Brandi Davis‑Handy, President of AES Indiana. “We balance affordability and reliability by making prudent, long‑term decisions that protect customers from unnecessary costs, while also providing real, near‑term support to help families manage their bills today and into the future.”
Immediate actions to support customers
AES Indiana outlined several customer-focused measures already in place or underway:
- Voluntarily extended winter moratorium
AES Indiana has voluntarily extended its seasonal disconnection moratorium beyond the state required timeframe, giving low-income home energy assistance program qualified customers additional time to seek assistance and work through payment options until May 15, 2026.
- Reconnect fees waived
To reduce barriers for customers restoring service, AES Indiana is waiving reconnect fees for eligible residential customers who are remotely reconnected, helping families get reconnected faster without added financial strain.
- Additional contributions to Power of Change
AES Indiana announced an additional $1 million shareholder funded contribution to its Power of Change program, providing more direct, one-time assistance for customers facing financial hardship. These funds are distributed through trusted nonprofit partners and are not included in customer rates.
- Levelized Billing for greater predictability
In accordance with state law, AES Indiana is in the process of updating its Budget Billing program to Levelized Billing, which helps customers smooth seasonal changes in energy use and better anticipate monthly bills. The program maintains the same customer benefit while enhancing predictability.
- Bill redesign informed by customer feedback
Recognizing that understanding a bill is just as important as paying it, AES Indiana is redesigning its customer bill to make charges clearer and easier to navigate. The company is conducting customer focus groups to ensure the updated bill better answers common questions and reduces confusion.
- Expanded access to bill planning tools
AES Indiana will enhance the visibility of its online bill calculator, which enables customers to better estimate future bills based on usage and seasonal trends. The tool will soon be available within the My Account portal making it easier to find.
- Energy efficiency and income‑qualified programs
AES Indiana continues to invest in energy efficiency programs that help customers reduce usage and lower bills, including income‑qualified programs that provide enhanced support for customers who need it most.
