National 811 Day is a reminder to follow safe digging practices

AES Indiana reminds customers to call 811 before you dig

August 11, 2025

INDIANAPOLIS – AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), is reminding customers on National 811 day, to call before you dig. Whether you are a “do-it-yourself” homeowner or a contracted professional, before beginning late summer landscaping or home improvement project, call Indiana 811 at least two full business days ahead of your scheduled start.

To ensure safety, you need to know where electrical, gas and other utility lines are located on your property. Not only will doing so avoid headaches and make your job easier, but you will steer clear of potential utility outages, repair costs and serious or even fatal injuries.

Indiana 811 is a free statewide service that coordinates with local utilities to have underground lines marked. All underground utility owners and operators are required to be members of Indiana 811. When a ticket is received either online or over the phone, Indiana 811 notifies member utilities or their contract locators to request that they mark their buried utility lines in the area of the dig site.

You can save time by visiting indiana811.org and submitting a ticket using their online portal.
