AES Indiana reminds customers to follow safe digging practices on National 811 Day (Sunday)

August 9, 2024

AES Indiana reminds customers that August 11 (811) stands as a day to remember safe digging practices. It’s important for both homeowners undertaking their own DIY projects and professional contractors to make a call to 811 at least two full business days before starting any late summer landscaping or home improvement plans.

For safety purposes, it's essential to know where electrical, gas and other utility lines are located on your property. Not only will doing so simplify your work and prevent complications, it also helps you avoid possible interruptions of utility services, expensive repairs and severe or potentially fatal accidents.

AES Indiana is a member of the Indiana Underground Plant Protection Service (IUPPS), a free state-wide service that will notify your utility companies to send representatives to the site and clearly mark the location of their underground lines and pipes. If your digging or construction work extends past 10 business days from the first markings, you must request a remark of the utility lines for accuracy.
