AES Indiana adds to senior leadership team including first-ever chief customer officer and smart grid leader

March 23, 2021

AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), announced today the hiring of its first-ever chief customer officer in addition to the promotion of two other longtime leaders to the senior leadership team.

As chief customer officer, Wendy Mehringer will lead and accelerate efforts for the customer service team as they focus on new solutions to help customers achieve their most important objectives of reliability, affordability and sustainability. Mehringer will also oversee the launch of new digital tools aimed at improving the AES Indiana customer experience. Mehringer has built her career on bringing customer, and other stakeholder and community needs, to the forefront in organizational transformations, first as an executive at Indiana Blood Center then leading the newly created customer experience team at Roche Diagnostics. She is a graduate of Ball State University and received her MBA from Purdue University.

AES Indiana also promoted two company veterans, Kathy Storm and Mike Shruba.

Kathy Storm will serve as vice president, US Smart Grid and Ohio T&D Operations. Storm becomes the first-ever smart grid leader for AES’ US utilities focused on leading grid modernization efforts to meet the future energy needs of customers. AES Indiana has plans to invest $1.2 billion in the modernization of the electric grid over the next seven years. Storm previously led the US Utilities Transmission and Distribution Asset Management team and Operations for Metering Services and Safety. Storm has been with AES for 14 years and is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy.

Mike Shruba will serve as vice president of Indiana T&D Operations. Since joining AES Indiana in 2006, Shruba has led Field Operations and served as senior director of Indiana T&D Operations, director of Projects and Contracts. Shruba has been instrumental in moving forward AES Indiana’s efforts to embark upon a seven-year modernization of the electric grid including upgrades to provide distribution network self-healing capabilities, upgrading and replacing aging infrastructure, and other grid resiliency capabilities. Prior to AES, Shruba spent nearly 20 years with Ford Motor Company, leading teams in manufacturing operations, engineering and facilities and maintenance.  Mike serves on the Board of Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana and has been with AES for 15 years. He is a graduate of Purdue University.

“It’s an exciting moment in our company history,” said AES Indiana president and CEO Kristina Lund. “The changes we are making within our senior leadership team reflect our increased focus and dedication to accelerating the future of energy here in Indiana.  We are committed finding new technology and innovations to better serve our customers and ensure they can all achieve their most important objectives of reliability, affordability and sustainability.”
