Plan designed to help customers lower monthly energy bills through cost-saving solutions and long-term system efficiencies

AES Indiana Files Comprehensive Energy Efficiency Plan with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to Help Customers Lower Bills

May 21, 2026

AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), has filed a petition with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) today for a new, three-year Energy Efficiency Plan that will deliver bill savings through 2029 by providing tools that allow customers to manage household energy usage. The 2027-2029 plan projects a total annual savings of approximately 120,000 MWh, which is enough to power 10,500 homes for a year.

“For many years, our customers and community have benefited from the reduction in energy consumption due to our longstanding, proven programs. Hoosiers are navigating real financial pressures, and we believe an effective way to address affordability is to help customers better understand and manage their usage,” said Brandi Davis-Handy, President of AES Indiana. “Our energy efficiency programs remain an important part of our strategy as we approach growth opportunities in Central Indiana.”

Key Highlights of the Proposed Energy Efficiency Plan include:

  • Zero-Cost Home Weatherization: Free energy assessments and weatherization upgrades for qualifying low-income households to reduce heating and cooling loss.
  • Enhanced Rebates and Incentives: Increased incentives for customers who upgrade to high-efficiency HVAC systems, smart thermostats, and energy-saving appliances.
  • Solutions for Renters: Direct-installation of energy efficiency measures for tenants of apartments, condos, and townhomes.
  • Bill Management Resources: Powerview® allows customers to explore their electricity consumption and identify ways to save.
  • Small Business Support: Direct-install options to help local small commercial customers lower their energy costs, allowing them to reinvest in their business and the local economy.

The plan has been filed with the IURC. A final decision from the Commission is anticipated by the end of the year, and if approved, is expected to begin in early 2027.
