AES Indiana is here to help customers prepare for higher energy usage and bills in the summer due to high temperatures.

AES Indiana offers community office hours to help customers plan for higher summer energy usage

May 7, 2025

INDIANAPOLIS – AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), is urging customers to plan ahead before the hot summer months bring higher energy usage and higher bills. Planning ahead, tracking energy use, and making your home more energy efficient can help customers manage their energy bills during the high  temperature months.

AES Indiana will host two community office hour events starting this week. During these office hours, customers can learn about ways to save during the hot summer months and speak to a home auditor about how to make their home more energy efficient. This includes signing up for an in-home energy assessment (for income-qualified customers) or a virtual home energy assessment (available to all AES Indiana customers). To sign up for a home energy assessment, customers will need their aesindiana.com username and password.

Also as part of these community office hours, AES Indiana customers will be able to receive in-person support with their unique billing needs from the  AES Indiana Customer Care team. A bilingual agent will be available to customers at each event.

In 2024, Indianapolis had the warmest year on record. Central Indiana saw 195 days with highs of at least 70 degrees last year. Summer utility bills are often higher because it takes more energy to cool your home to the temperature you set on your thermostat, even if you haven’t changed the temperature.

Understanding home energy usage:

  • Heating and cooling account for over half of your home’s energy use.
  • The number of days in each billing cycle can vary causing higher bills if there are more days.
  • People usually spend more time inside during the hottest summer days, which increases electricity use for appliances, lights and electronics.

AES Indiana is committed to helping customers take control of their energy use and save money by following these hot weather energy efficiency tips:

  • Help reduce cooling costs. Set your thermostat back at least 8 degrees each day when you are at work and when you go to bed.
  • Don’t set the thermostat lower than you want it, even if you’re trying to cool your home quickly. It won’t cool your home any faster, and it runs your system longer than necessary.
  • Ventilation is the least expensive and most energy-efficient way to cool your home. Try ventilating your home by opening windows to create a cross breeze, using room fans, and using whole house fans.
  • The easiest way to save money and energy use is to regularly clean and replace your cooling unit’s filters. A clogged filter restricts airflow through the unit, decreasing its efficiency and reducing its ability to effectively cool the air.
