Edison Electric Institute recognizes AES Indiana as an Emergency Recovery Award recipient

September 16, 2025

INDIANAPOLIS – AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), was named a recipient of an Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Emergency Recovery Award. Presented to EEI member companies twice a year, the Emergency Response Awards recognize recovery and assistance efforts of electric companies following service disruptions caused by extreme weather or other natural events. The winners were chosen by a panel of judges following an international nomination process. The awards were presented during EEI’s Fall Board of Directors and Chief Executives Meeting.

"We have seen the impact of strong storms, but our commitment to our customers is stronger. When severe storms hit, our teams stand ready, prepared, resilient and united to restore power safely,” said Brandi Davis-Handy, President of AES Indiana. “Every challenge is met with dedication to restore power to our communities, no matter the circumstances."

AES Indiana faced significant challenges from multiple severe weather events, including the aftermath of Hurricane Helene brought sustained winds of 30 mph, gusts up to 70 mph, and affected over 77,700 customers and a tornado on April 2 that caused outages for 70,700 customers. Additionally, two severe storms on June 18, 2025, damaged infrastructure across the service territory and left 104,000 customers without power. Thanks to advanced storm outlooks and coordinated response strategies, AES Indiana quickly mobilized crews and contractors to restore service, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in the face of widespread disruption.

“America’s electric companies and their dedicated workforces work tirelessly throughout the year to strengthen the energy grid and to restore power—and peace of mind—for American families and businesses after extreme weather events and natural disasters,” said EEI President and CEO Drew Maloney. “EEI is proud to recognize AES Indiana for its extraordinary response efforts following spring storms and tornadoes. This recovery award reflects AES Indiana and its storm response team’s incredible commitment to the customers and communities they serve.”
