Hundreds of AES Indiana People Make an Impact in Indianapolis Through the 15th Annual Day in the Parks Community Service Day
October 30, 2025
INDIANAPOLIS – Hundreds of AES Indiana people and community leaders helped beautify Indianapolis’ oldest park during an annual community service day. This was the company’s largest volunteer effort since 2019.
Thursday, more than 350 AES Indiana people, including 150 lineworkers, spent the day in different parts of Garfield Park, to help improve, enhance and beautify the Garfield Park Art Center, MacAllister Amphitheater, Garfield Park Conservatory - and surrounding park grounds.
“For 15 years we’ve had the opportunity and honor to step out of our day-to-day and give back to our community” said Brandi Davis-Handy, President of AES Indiana. “This is our largest Day in the Parks in recent memory, beating last year’s record. More than 350 volunteers are working to refresh hallways, galleries, and classrooms with new paint, assemble furniture and shelving, update the dance studio flooring, and enhance entryways and landscaping, expanding functional, welcoming spaces and creating lasting impact for everyone who visits.”
Garfield Park opened in 1873 and is the oldest park in Indianapolis. This year is the second in a two-year partnership with Indy Parks and Recreation to make enhancements to Garfield Park. The projects employees worked on today included: clearing invasive species, multiple painting projects including refreshing an outdoor mural and beautifying the entrance to the Garfield Park Arts Center.
“There’s a saying we have in the Parks Department and that is ‘it takes a village,’” said Brittany Crone, Director of Indy Parks and Recreation. “The work you have done here today is a testament to that fact. You are our village. Your efforts here are lasting.”
