City of Indianapolis to celebrate 30 years of being a Tree City USA

IPL celebrates Arbor Day with Indy Free Tree event

April 25, 2018

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.— Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL), a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), is celebrating Arbor Day by sponsoring the annual Indy Free Tree event to support ongoing sustainability efforts. This year, the Indy Free Tree event commemorates the City of Indianapolis’ 30th anniversary of being a Tree City USA. To celebrate, IPL will give away 1,000 Carolina Buckthorn trees on a first-come, first-served basis and limited to one per family. Additional details are below:

  • WHEN: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Friday, April 27
  • WHERE: Monument Circle in front of the IPL building
  • VISUALS: A short event program will commence promptly at 11 a.m. with IPL President and CEO Craig Jackson, City of Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful Executive Director Dave Forsell, and National Arbor Day Foundation CEO Matt Harris addressing the crowd in celebration of the City’s 30th anniversary of being a Tree City USA.

IPL encourages passersby who receive a tree during the event to download our Right Tree Right Place brochure and look for tips to plant smart with the utilities in mind.

For the fifteenth year, IPL is recognized as a Tree Line USA utility. Tree Line USA utilities must meet certain standards—training employees in quality tree-care practices, educating the public about planting trees for energy conservation and helping homeowners plant appropriate trees near utility lines—to be considered for the award. Additionally, IPL announced earlier this week that this year marks four years in a row that IPL has been recognized as a Utility Environmental Champion by Market Strategies Cogent ReportsTM where our customers recognize our continued dedication to the environment.
