Think energy efficiency as Daylight Saving Time ends

March 10, 2017

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL), a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), encourages customers to think about quick and easy ways to manage their energy use as Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday, March 12 at 2 a.m.

As Central Indiana enjoys more evening sunlight this spring, remember a few simple steps than can make a difference when it comes to effectively managing energy usage:

  • Choose LED lighting: Replace old incandescent bulbs with newer light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs. According to, replacing just 5 of your home’s most frequently used lights with energy-efficient ENERGY STAR bulbs could save you $75 a year in energy costs.
  • Reduce Water Heater Temperature: Check the temperature of your water heater. Lowering your water heater’s temperature and installing low-flow showerheads could reduce energy and your water heating bills.
  • Utilize Electronic Power Strips: Plug electronic devices into a power strip and turn it off when not in use to avoid phantom power usage.
  • Sign up for IPL PowerToolsSM: Take advantage of IPL’s 12 energy-efficiency programs geared toward helping customers effectively manage their households’ energy usage and electric bills.

IPL would also like to remind customers that Daylight Saving Time is a good reminder to check their smoke alarms and change the batteries if needed.
