Storm restoration updates
Sunday, June 22 2025:
5 p.m.
As of 5 p.m. this evening, AES Indiana has reached 100% restoration of storm-related outages. Since the storm rolled through our service territory Wednesday evening, our crews worked around the clock as quickly and safely as possible to restore power to 68,700 customers.
Winds exceeding 70 mph, accompanied by heavy rain and falling trees, caused significant damage to AES Indiana’s power lines and electric infrastructure. During this storm restoration, crews replaced 51 poles and 40 transformers.
Our customers rely on us to be prepared and restore power as quickly as possible during these critical times. It is a privilege to serve our customers, and we thank them for their trust, patience and understanding. We appreciate our community for their cooperation in this safe restoration effort, and we're always thankful for how Central Indiana unites during times of need.
9 a.m.
AES Indiana has restored power to over 99% of customers from the storm that moved through our service territory on Wednesday evening. Currently, 141 customers remain without power. Due to the extent of the damage to our service territory, and based on our assessment, we anticipate most remaining customers to be restored by mid-day today. AES Indiana is fully staffed and crews are working around the clock to restore power. We also have mutual assistance crews from Michigan, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina to support us with the restoration efforts.
Here are some points we want to highlight:
- AES Indiana has restored power to over 99% of customers and anticipates restoration for most remaining customers by mid-day today.
- There are currently 91 incidents remaining. Each outage is caused by what is referred to as an incident. Each individual incident is a separate job (like a tree falling on a line, a snapped pole, etc.) requiring assessment and personnel to make repairs, which takes time due to the severity of the damage. For this storm, crews have replaced 48 poles and 33 transformers. One new pole can take up to 8 hours to set.
- To support our customers today with high heat expected and restoration efforts still underway, we’ve gathered resources for our customers, including a list of cooling centers and places around the city where you can stay safe and cool this weekend. We know being without power in this heat is difficult, and we want to make sure our customers can stay safe and cool while our crews continue working around the clock to restore service.
- Safety is our top priority. Everyone should stay away from downed power lines or poles and report them immediately to 317-261-8111.
