AES Indiana preparing for summer storm season, urging customers to plan ahead
June 17, 2025
INDIANAPOLIS - AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), is preparing for the summer storm season and asking customers to plan ahead. The first day of summer is Friday, June 20 and the season can bring unpredictable severe and dangerous weather. Lightning strikes can cause damage to electric equipment, and gusty winds can break tree branches that land on power lines. In some cases, flash flooding may cause electrical hazards and service disruptions.
The Climate Prediction Center (CPC), a division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), anticipates a hot summer for 2025 with unseasonably hot temperatures during June, July and August. This leads to a higher probability of strong storms, including more heat events with hotter temperatures starting earlier and ending later.

AES Indiana conducts routine maintenance to strengthen its power delivery system, including inspecting and replacing poles and trimming trees away from power lines. AES Indiana crews are well-equipped to handle any damage caused by summer storms. We conduct regular planning sessions and drills to maintain our proficiency in storm response, ensuring that power is restored to our customers safely and efficiently.
When severe weather is in the forecast, AES Indiana adjusts staffing to ensure we are prepared to respond if outages occur. If the lights go out, our teams work around the clock to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
