AES Indiana’s Power of Change program assists customers struggling with winter heating bills
December 13, 2021
AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), is kicking off its third year of Power of Change – a program to help warm the homes of those struggling to pay winter heating bills. Power of Change helps income qualified customers with a one-time grant to assist with electric bill payments when financial challenges occur. The goal is to offer customers a hand-up during a time of need.
AES Indiana committed to fund $100,000 to the Power of Change program when the program launched in 2019. Since that time, more than $165,000 has been granted to customers needing utility assistance with support from customer and employee donations. To date, more than 300 eligible families in the AES Indiana service territory have received assistance.
“As we enter the coldest month of the year, our hope is to lessen the burden of those customers experiencing financial hardships,” said Wendy Mehringer, Chief Customer Officer, AES Indiana. “The Power of Change fund allows us to lend a hand to those who need it the most, helping to avoid the difficult choice between a warm home and other necessities.”
Anyone can get behind when unexpected things happen. The loss of a job, death of a spouse, major medical bills or other financial hardships can make it difficult to stay current with monthly bills. Customers in need can apply for a one-time grant now through September 30, 2022. Funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis until the program year’s funds are exhausted.
Donations to the Power of Change help to prevent disconnection or to quickly restore power to customers who have been disconnected. AES Indiana customers who are interested in donating to this program can do so in one of three ways: monthly bill round up, monthly recurring amount donations or a one-time donation option.
