About AES Indiana

AES Indiana is engaged primarily in generating, transmitting, distributing, and selling electric energy to more than 500,000 retail customers in Indianapolis and neighboring areas, with the most distant point being about 40 miles from Indianapolis. AES Indiana’s service area covers about 528 square miles. They are subject to the regulatory authority of the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. They fully participate in the electricity markets managed by the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO).

AES Indiana is a transmission company member of Reliability First, which is one of six Regional Reliability Councils under the North American Reliability Corporation (designated as the Electric Reliability Organization under the EPAct). About the Request for Proposal (RFP)

The purpose of this 2023 RFP is to solicit proposals from a qualified firm for the complete delivery of a Li-Ion Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facility adjacent to the existing AES Indiana Petersburg Generating Station. To meet AES Indiana’s goals and support its strategic generation plan, AES Indiana is requesting a fast-track project with a condensed procurement process, with a desired Commercial Operation Date in December 2024. Competitive proposals for the engineering, procurement, and construction of a facility with a capacity of 200MW and a storage duration of 4 hours will be accepted for evaluation. This will comprise of 200MW/800MWh BESS facilities and two (2) 34.5kV-345kV collector substations. The project shall interconnect at the existing 345kV switchyard via a new 345kV circuit.
